In case you were worried, wondering what you were going to do with those four months away from Queen's, there are a ton of ways to stay involved with EWB over your summer vacation! Pick any or all of the following:
What is Canada's role in the world? Is there a place for humility in this? We'll start by watching a captivating speech delivered at the EWB 2010 National Conference by Shauna Sylvester, Founding Director of Canada's World. We'll move on to discuss the concept of national identity, Canada's recent failures on the world stage, and strategies to recover our 'beloved' global citizenship. We'll then expand the discussion to the significance of positionality and, of course, humility in development. Dave Price is back in the facilitator role and feeling biased - ha!
This week's session is all about relating EWB's values to the struggle at Barriere Lake and the failing 1991 trilateral agreement between the Algonquins of Barriere Lake, and the Governments of Quebec and Canada. We will learn a bit about the background and present state of this struggle and discuss the concept of 'responsibility'. It is crucial that we strive for some sort of consistency in the greater aims and values of our organization by considering the relevance of colonialism in Canada to EWB's activities in Canada and overseas.
This is an event to thank all of our members for their hard work this year! Come out for a brunch (food will be provided) and celebrate all of our great members!
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science has organized this event to allow students to ask their questions about the new curriculum that the Faculty is designing. This is a very important opportunity for EWBers to show the Dean that 1) there are many students interested in knowing about curriculum changes and 2) we want the curriculum to prepare engineers to face the global issues that are currently facing society (poverty, marginalization, globalization and environmental degradation).
Please come out to this event to show support and hear what the Dean has to say! If you are interested, check out the questions that EWB submitted to the Dean at http://www.queensu.ewb.ca/sites/default/files/EWB_AskTheDean_QuestionSub....
